How do I restore my backup from another PC?

You simply setup SecoBackup on another computer and use the same Amazon AWS account with SecoBackup on that computer. On the "Browser Amazon S3" tab, you can click on the other computer name, that puts you in browse and restore mode for the other computer. At this time you can download one file or the entire directory rooted at "C:", for example, in a single click. After the download is complete all the files from the first computer are restored on the second computer.

You dont have to wait until the first computer fails to do this. You can connect two computers to the same Amazon account, and each computer can browser and download the files from the other computer with just one click. Its really that easy.

Can I remotely access my PC?

Yes. You can set up as many computers as you like to use the same Amazon AWS account. To get the activation code for your other PCs, you simply reget it following the same link on the Configure page, once you install SecoBackup on your other PC. On the "Browser Amazon S3" page, you will see a list of all computers on the green top bar. By default you can browse backups of your current computer. You can also click on the other computer name, that puts you in browse and restore mode for the other computer.

If you have a home PC and a laptop connected to the same Amazon account, from your office or vacation, you can still get to the latest version of your files on your PC from the backup at Amazon S3.

Yes. SecoBackup handles large files with no size limit - could be terabytes in size. It uses Amazon S3, but is not limited to large files. This is an important enterprise grade capability that is essential for dealing with large files like videos as well as files from backups of Microsoft Exchange, Databases or other large data sources.

SecoBackup is designed ground up for internet backup particularly to cloud computing. Its resilient to network disconnects, reboots etc, even if they occur in the middle of a large file upload (say a 10GB file).

Which bucket and S3 account is my data stored in?

When you sign up for SecoBackup service, you get a private, isolated S3 account for you at Amazon S3. This account is accessible only by you from any of your PCs and servers that have SecoBackup installed on them. Your data is supported by multiple levels of security. Your files are encrypted before sending to Amazon S3. They sent using SSL (encrypted network transport) to Amazon S3. Your files are sent directly from your computers to Amazon S3. Also, at Amazon S3, your account data is inaccessible by other users because of the strict access control that Amazon implements. SecoBackup provides maximum security to complement cloud computing.

Will de-duplication work across computers?

Yes. As long as the computers are connected to the same Amazon AWS account, SecoBackup will automatically detect duplicates across the computers and store the files only once.
For example, if a common set of pictures are on two of your PCs, they will get backed up only once, saving your storage and bandwidth costs at Amazon S3.

How do I upgrade to the latest version of the product?

We recommend that you keep up to date with the latest version of our product to avail of the newest enhancements to the product. How does De-duplication compare to delta technology. If only a portion of a file (10MB of a 1GB file) is updated, how will de-duplication work?

Yes, if you update only a portion (say 10MB of a 1 GB file), only the changed portion gets backed up the next time. In this way its similar to delta technology.

De-duplication is much more advanced than delta-technology and much more. Delta technology is useful for a single file that is being modified - de-duplication includes delta technology and performs the same type of delta backup. De-duplication can detect common portions across files. So lets say you have two files on a computer that are identical, de-duplication is able to detect it and store only one copy. In addition, if the two files are not identical, but have some common parts (like would be the case with multiple versions/copies of a database or word document), de-duplication will detect commonality across files and store the common portions only once. De-duplication has been shown to often help reduce storage by 20 times to 40 times.

How do I backup a SQL Server Database to Amazon S3 Cloud Storage using SecoBackup?

SQL Server has a "hot backup" or "online backup" facility built into it. You simply make it backup to a directory that you have asked SecoBackup to backup to S3 and your SS backups will go to S3.

http://www.sql-server-performance.com/articles/dba/creating_backup_jobs_p1.aspx

The procedure is a simple process of setting up a maintainence plan to create a "Backup a Database" task. Where it says "Folder:" pick a location where you want the local backups to be placed. Note that you can have the local backup copy to be deleted after say 3 days - thats ok - because your Amazon S3 backup is still preserved by SecoBackup. That way you can have daily backups for 30 days at your disposal at Amazon S3, while you only keep 3 days worth of backup on your local disk.
